Family College Prep

When a student goes to college, the transition is tough on the whole family. To help you feel more prepared for your student's transition, please review the following reasources and feel free to contact the THS GEAR UP Team with any additional questions.


  • College Parents of America: this site has TONS of helpful posts and information to help you and your student adjust to "college life." Topics include: "7 Real Life Skills to Develop Prior to College" via the Washington Post, "Tips & Insights into Hacking College Admissions," "5 Questions Every Parent, Student Should Ask About Campus Safety," and "FAFSA -- Do it Early & Honestly" to name a few. New content is consitently added to the site, so check back often for additional information.
  • Federal Student Aid: this website has College Prep Checklists for parents and students of ALL grade levels so that you can be fully aware of what you and your student need to do each year to be "college ready." In addition, you will find helpful Financial Aid information, tools for choosing a college, a glossary of terms, and MUCH MORE to help you navigate the transition.
